Brake Calipers

Brake calipers are hydraulic devices that help press the brake pads against the rotors. When you press the brake pedal, the brake lines exert hydraulic pressure on the brake caliper. The piston inside the caliper compresses the brake pads against the rotor, bringing the car to a stop. If the brake calipers are failing, it can cause the brake pads to wear out more quickly. Squealing noises or leaking brake fluid are just a few of the symptoms that can pop up that point to brake caliper problems. Brake calipers can also stick which means that your brakes are constantly applied while you are driving, even if you are not pressing the brake pedal. Stuck brake calipers can cause transmission problems, which can be very costly to repair. If you end up needing to replace a brake caliper, it is recommended that you replace both sides so that they have the same braking capabilities.
